NOMAD FORCE

Sailing the seas with Nomadic spirit

Sailing in Kazakhstan has grown from a niche passion into an emerging sport with international ambitions. Our journey began with small regattas, driven by enthusiasts who believed that even a landlocked country could produce skilled sailors. Over the years, the sport has evolved from dinghy racing to offshore sailing, with Kazakh crews gaining valuable experience in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

The SSL Team Kazakhstan has naturally formed from two complementary parts:
First group of professional youth athletes, who train locally throughout the year and regularly compete in regional and international junior championships; and
the second part of the team is highly experienced amateur offshore sailors, who have spent many years racing in major international regattas around the world.

Together, they create a unique blend of athletic precision and offshore racing expertise. Our strengths lie in adaptability, teamwork, and a deep commitment to continuous learning. Despite limited infrastructure at home, we have trained with international coaches, competed abroad, and built a tight-knit sailing community that supports the growth of each member.

Our motivation comes from the challenge of pushing personal and collective limits, as well as the dream of putting Kazakhstan on the world sailing map. We draw inspiration from legendary sailors who proved that determination can overcome geography and resources. Representing Kazakhstan at the SSL Gold Cup is both an honor and a responsibility — a chance to show that passion, discipline, and unity can carry a team from the steppes to the global sailing stage. We aim to compete fiercely, learn from the best, and inspire the next generation of Kazakh sailors to take the helm.

For Kazakhs, the number 7 is considered lucky and sacred due to a blend of ancient Turkic beliefs, nomadic traditions, and Islamic symbolism.

Cosmic harmony: In traditional worldview, there are 7 directions: east, west, north, south, up (sky), down (earth), and the center — the place where a person stands, symbolizing balance.

Islamic influence: The Qur’an and Hadith mention 7 heavens, 7 rounds around the Kaaba, and 7 verses in Al-Fatiha.

Folklore: Popular sayings include Zheti kazyna (“seven treasures”) and Seven times measure, once cut.

For Kazakhs, 7 symbolizes luck, protection, and completeness of life.

THE CAPTAIN

Murat Abdrakhmanov

Murat Abdrakhmanov is a distinguished Kazakh venture investor and the founder of MA7 Ventures, yet his passion extends far beyond the world of technology and finance. As Commodore of the Almaty Yacht Club, he plays a key role in shaping and promoting the culture of sailing in Kazakhstan.
An accomplished sailor, he achieved one of his most notable results by securing 3rd place in the Rolex Middle Sea and the 2nd place in the 2023 Rolex Giraglia Cup — a major Mediterranean regatta featuring more than 150 competing yachts — aboard his own yacht Jenis (“Victory”). Murat competes annually in top-tier Rolex-class offshore races, including the Rolex Giraglia and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, and has also taken part in major ocean crossings such as the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) and the Caribbean 600.
Actively racing since 2009, he has accumulated significant offshore and inshore experience in some of the world’s most challenging waters. Beyond competition, Murat is a strong advocate of the venture-regatta format, combining startup and investor networking with the teamwork and discipline of sailing. As he often says, sailing “tests people, builds trust, and creates a powerful platform for meaningful business connections.sailing “tests people, builds trust, and is a powerful forum for business.
